Draft of Podcast (Week of 3/23)

I have created a draft of my podcast using a combination of a photo-morphing program, Garage Band, and iMovie. I just recorded my voice-over today, and I wanted to post the original draft, so that you could check it out and provide feedback.

That's a very cool morphing effect, Jessica, and I think it adds the perfect visual dimension to the content of your podcast. What did you use? This sounds like a great welcome to your site, and will be an excellent addition, especially as you reedit and refine it in subsequent versions. The length works quite well for that "welcome" purpose, I think. Are you submitting to the contest? (If so, I think it needs to be longer.)

Wow, Jessica--very creative approach to your podcast! The morphing is a marvelous way to approach how you have changed. Your music is great too: appropriate, upbeat, and well placed (good volume and just enough length).

I agree with Chris that the podcast is a great welcome but not an entry for the contest. If you are submitting an expanded version of this podcast (and I think you should because of the creative approach to graphics!), you could expand the information you are sharing. Why not videotape you as you walk, as you prepare dinner, and as you work? Then you can talk about how you integrate healthy living into every aspect of your life. You could also interview your husband because he is such an important part of your lifestyle. :-) (I love his "HI!" in the welcome!)

You've motivated me--I've lost 5 pounds this semester, and I've visited your website for links several times. :-) (Am I cheating by using your site as you develop it?)

Hi Chris and Carie, I actually wasn't planning to submit my podcast to the contest. Thanks for the compliments on the morphing graphics. It was an invention born from necessity. I do not have a video camera to record any footage, so my podcast had to involve pictures. Then, I saw a morphed photo and fell in love with the effect. I wanted that to show how I changed.

Jessica,

The morphing is really an effective intro for this blog. Great idea! In terms of what could be added, I'd like to hear more of your story in your own voice, which is something the podcast audio offers. Reading the story in digital words on some of your pages is helpful, but hearing you tell about your experiences would be even more powerful. How about a few anecdotes? Maybe the first time you realized that your weight was becoming a problem? The worst moment in your life related to your weight? The best moment, when you felt the best, after losing the weight? Those are all critical junctures on the narrative arc, and I think they would be illustrative of the struggle and why you have decided to share this information with others, to make people in similar situations not feel alone.
